Your potential is limited only by how many excuses you have.
Given how young our club is, I've simply never had the opportunity to push club contests. The various levels of contests are wonderful experiences, and lots of fun -- I've participated in a few in the old country. Here in Israel, at present, we're the only Toastmasters club around, and this limits what we can do in terms of the contest experience -- but it doesn't eliminate it! Even just at the club level, contests are fun and worthwhile.

At this week's club meeting, our scheduled Jokemaster didn't show up. I took on the role myself, but asked the VP-E if I could borrow his computer for a moment to look up the joke I had in mind -- I just couldn't remember the details offhand.
But there's one simple change I made to what had been a typical e-mail joke. Rather than talking about something that happened to someone else, I put myself in as the butt of the joke. Communication and leadership skills go hand in hand. We need them constantly in our day to day lives, whether or not we're actually professionally leaders or speakers. If you are one of those people who seem to be born with these skills, then Toastmasters offers a great opportunity to hone those skills, and make yourself much more effective. Personally, I started off utterly terrified of any opportunity involving putting myself forward, of standing out.
