  • Tell a Story

    At this week's club meeting, our scheduled Jokemaster didn't show up. I took on the role myself, but asked the VP-E if I could borrow his computer for a moment to look up the joke I had in mind -- I just couldn't remember the details offhand. But there's one simple change I made to what had been a typical e-mail joke. Rather than talking about something that happened to someone else, I put myself in as the butt of the joke.   • Stepping Up to the Plate

    At our last Toastmasters meeting, we faced a difficult situation. Because of a failure with our communications, not everyone had received notification of the meeting, and unfortunately, our scheduled speaker failed to show up. (I want to be clear here -- it wasn't his fault. I sent out a notification of the meeting, but because of specific circumstances, it didn't go out to the entire list as it usually does. Communication and leadership skills go hand in hand. We need them constantly in our day to day lives, whether or not we're actually professionally leaders or speakers.
